Prompt Engineering Tips
RankWriting handles most of the prompt engineering for you — but the quality of your inputs directly affects the quality of the output.
Be specific with your topic
Weak: "digital marketing tips"
Strong: "how small e-commerce stores can use TikTok ads to reduce customer acquisition cost in 2025"
The more specific the topic, the more useful and rankable the article.
Use long-tail keywords
High-competition head terms are hard to rank for. Pair them with 2–3 long-tail variations:
digital marketing, TikTok ads for e-commerce, reduce CAC with social media
Long-tail keywords help the article capture more search intent variants.
Leverage the Q&A flow
Before generation, the AI asks a few guiding questions. Take them seriously:
- ·Who exactly is the target audience?
- ·Should the article promote a specific product or service?
- ·Are there particular data points or perspectives to emphasize?
Detailed answers produce notably more targeted articles.
Use Knowledge Base for unique insights
Generic AI content tends to look the same. Upload your case studies, customer data, and internal reports to the Knowledge Base so articles contain proprietary insights your competitors can't replicate.
Match article type to search intent
| Search intent | Best article type | |---------------|------------------| | "what is X" | Research or Deep Dive | | "how to X" | How-to | | "X vs Y" | Review | | "best X for Y" | Listicle |
